  1. I’m a new doula to the area and I live in Northern Maine. There are few doulas in my area and recently we’ve discussed how to have a stronger voice in our area. Many providers don’t know what we do and some just don’t like our work. We need help dispel myths and get the right education out there and maybe you could?

    1. I second. I am a born and raised mainer. Trained as a Doula in California while we were stationed there and received a bulk of my experience there. I was a Doula in the Bangor area for 2 years and I have been a doula in the Lincoln area for a year now, still serving most of Bangor. Doulas are very under used and under appreciated in the area. Southern Maine, kennebunk, portland-you can be very successful and help many people. In this area not so much. I spent a lot of time and money trying to get a belly binding workshop here in Maine, the first one ever, and she was unable to fly out because we needed 15 people to sign up and only 5 did, it was taken unseriously and no one knew what it was or what a doula was, as hard as I tried to explain it. I have given birth 4 times, three times at EMMC(all disappointing) and once in Fort Irwin Ca (by far the best birth experience and i was induced). I had a doula at two out of my 4 births and I used midwife care through my pregnancy three out of four times. I recently found out I was expecting again (hopefully this will be our 4th live birth) and i am done trying with EMMC, I plan on going to Clear Light Holistic Midwifery. I wish people in this amazing state could see how important doulas are to all births and how we can help all women and fathers, and especially that we are there to support the birth partner and not take their place.
